Farm Walks

Get out And Enjoy Yourself

Treat yourself to a walk around Kenana Farm, visit the race horses, the dairy herd, calves, chickens. There’s fantastic birding on the farm, colobus monkeys in the forests, and if you are lucky, you may catch a glimpse of a duiker, reedbuck, a mongoose, genet or or a serval.

Whether you’re exploring quiet woodlands, wandering alongside grassy meadows or strolling around your favourite trail on the farm, walking in nature keeps our bodies and minds healthy, and gives us a breather from the stresses of daily life, a space to gather our thoughts.

In our hectic world, walking is often regarded as a means to an end – a planned leisure activity, or a means of doing physical exercise. However walking without purpose or purposeless walking has much more value. It becomes a way to clear one’s head, allow inspiration, take in the scenery and even notice other people. Take time to stop and soak in the small things you see, hear and smell when you’re outdoors. Being in nature can be an enjoyable opportunity to experience something new and exciting.

Learning something new can give you something to focus on, a sensory experience, not only enjoying the countryside views, but hearing the sounds of nature, enjoying the smell of wild plants and more. The great outdoors is full of new things, and being active boosts the chemicals in your brain that help put you in a good mood, improve your fitness, and gives you a sense of achievement and contribute to a better night’s sleep.

Why not ask somebody out on a walk so you can talk, explore and admire nature together. Being kind and positive, having a laugh, sharing a perspective on something or just listening to someone else talk can remind us that we all have something positive to offer each other.
